WE’RE ONLY HUMAN

*Psssshhhh*

Yes, that’s the sound of a cold non-alcoholic beer cracking open after a long piping hot day at work. Sounds lame right? Totally. However, I feel optimistic about what sobriety has to offer. If you’re going through a similar situation, I applaud you for even trying! It starts with that one decision to better yourself. I say, if we aren’t bettering ourselves, growing or changing, we are dying. Who wants to die?! Hopefully not you. I know I don’t, at least not anymore.

Life has some stellar gifts just waiting for you to receive. I find the more you work on yourself, the more opportunities come pouring in. The more sober we are the more in tune and in touch we become with ourselves. We become more honest with ourselves. Being constantly flooded with alcohol flowing in our systems, we repel the actual beauty of what the world has for us. Even if you don’t drink everyday, when you have a few drinks here and there, it stays in your system for 10 days! 10 whole days! Who would have thought? I didn’t. I thought once we surpassed that brutal hangover, drank a shot glass of pickle juice and felt better, it was out of our system. Apparently not. This doesn’t just fly with alcohol; I’m talking about drugs and whatever sorts of toxic abuse we do to ourselves. I understand that we all just want to “numb” ourselves sometimes. That isn’t always the good thing to do. I know it’s hard, but to come through for yourself and feel the emotions you need to feel, will be so beneficial for you. I promise. If you need to have a hissy fit like that 3-year-old in Target, GO FOR IT. Perhaps do it in your bedroom or somewhere discreet and just belch those beautiful lungs with the loudest roar while throwing your pillows everywhere! Go to a kickboxing club or get a punching bag and just smack the shit out of that thing. Let your anger, fear, shame, built up steam and release that! Let go of the fear of hiding your emotions. You need to feel your emotions. We can’t keep covering up how we really feel with drugs and alcohol or whatever addiction you may have. It’s hard asking for help but once you do, your life is going to change. Find a good mentor who you trust and embrace the new you.

We are divine beings. We deserve to be our most authentic selves, expressing our emotions without having the fear of being judged or criticized. We are only human. We are going to make mistakes, we are going to relapse and do it all over again, but don’t let that deter you or bring you down.

You can never be a failure. You can only be a success. Don’t ever be hard on yourself either, you don’t deserve that. So, you trip up once, twice, 10 times, who cares.

You are trying and that is all that matters.
